What are remainder books?

Remainder books are unread books that the publisher sells-off in volume to reduce excess inventory. Sometimes the publisher printed too many copies, in other cases bookstores purchased too many copies and have returned them to the publisher for credit. The books, therefore, have been handled a few times but are still in excellent condition. In either case, the publisher may place a mark on the edge of the book to identify it as a remainder book. This ensures the book will never get returned to the publisher for credit. In most cases the mark is a small line or dot. Remainder books are free of textual markings and have unbroken bindings. Many of our remainder books look as good as our new copies.

I have a question about the condition of your books, a payment, or shipping.

Here are some answers to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS by our valued customers.

BOOK CONDITION: Most of our used books are in good or very good condition. The vast majority of our used books are free of textual markings (apart from the occasional owner's signature) and have tight bindings. Used books may have any of the following: Shelf wear, dings, slight fading, and/or minimal textual notes. We work hard to make sure all bindings are in good (or better) shape. Sometimes our used books have textual marks inside the book, but we generally do not catalog a book that has more than a few pages of the text marked unless it is a key text for religious studies.

Here are the condition guidelines we follow:

NEW: New

LIKE NEW: An unread copy. Dust cover is intact; pages are clean and are not marred by notes or folds of any kind.

REMAINDER: An apparently unread copy in very good condition. Dust cover is intact; pages are clean and are not marred by notes. Sometimes it will have a small black mark on the underside or some very slight cosmetic blemish.

VERY GOOD: A copy that has been read, but remains in very good condition. Pages are intact and are not marred by notes or highlighting, might have previous owners signature. The spine remains undamaged. The dust cover is often in a Brodart.

GOOD: A copy that has been read. All pages are intact, and the cover is intact. A dust cover might be missing. The spine may show signs of wear. Pages can include limited notes and highlighting (normally less than 5%), and the copy can include "From the library of" labels or owner's signature inside the cover.

FAIR: A readable copy. All pages are intact, and the cover is intact (the dust cover may be missing). Pages can include considerable notes--in pen or highlighter--but the notes do not obscure the text. We do not knowingly list books such as these online.

QUESTIONS ABOUT A SPECIFIC BOOK: If you have a question about whether a book is in "good" or "very good" condition, please assume it is just "good." About 90% of the books we list are "very good" or better. We regret that our volume of sales and limited staff do not make it possible for us to give detailed descriptons of every one of our titles. We do not answer emails requesting more detailed information on book condition unless the book price is over $50. We believe our feedback speaks for itself.

QUESTIONS ABOUT BOOK TITLE/EDITION/VOLUME: Online booksellers are at the mercy of various online venues (such as Amazon and eBay) for providing title information on books. If you have questions regarding the edition or volume that we have listed, please cut and the paste the ISBN we have listed into some of the many online book search engines such as Amazon, ABEbooks, Alibris, Biblio or A1books to get complete book information. You can find out extensive title information using the ISBN of a book quicker than it will take you to inquire and wait for a response from most online booksellers.

DOMESTIC DELIVERY TIMES: Whenever possible, we ship U.S. Priority Mail for fast delivery. Most U.S. bookstores ship domestic orders via Media Mail for standard shipping. If you live anywhere east of the Mississippi River, your book will take at least two weeks to arrive from California. We cannot track media mail orders. We can only confirm that is was postmarked. We will not take any action regarding a book shipped via standard shipping until four full weeks have passed. Please be patient. We ship all orders within 2 business days.

INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY TIMES: Whenever possible, we ship overseas packages by Global Priority for fast delivery. All packages shipped surface mail can take up to two full months to arrive. Packages shipped via air mail (or expedited) can take take a few days longer than the advertised time due to customs. We have had several expedited packages arrive later than advertsied times because of new and stricter customs procedures. Please be patient. We ship all orders within 2 business days

COMBINED SHIPPING:Combined orders are based on weight rather than the number of books, this saves you money.

CANADIAN SHIPPING: Most Canadian orders are sent via Global Priority. This is the most efficient way to send books to Canada.

PRICING: We do not bargain over our prices. We believe our prices are quite competitive for the quality of merchandise and service we offer.

GENERAL BOOK INFORMATION: If you have questions about general information regarding a book, such as the color, size, number of pages, date of publication, or other information please know this information can be easily found on a number of online book sites. If you have concerns about the category in which a book is listed, please understand booksellers have no control over where online sites categorize books. Please voice your category concerns to the online venues, not the booksellers.
